Lawrence Wetherhold (Dennis Quaid) is a curmudgeonly college professor and clueless single dad who has no idea what his children (Ashton Holmes and Ellen Page) are capable of. Into the picture comes Chuck, Lawrence’s stepbrother (Thomas Haden Church) and a new love in the form of Dr. Janet Hartigan (Sarah Jessica Parker), Lawrence’s former student.
A small, sharp, and pleasingly literate comedy…the actors in Smart People are such lively, offbeat company that you’re happy to spend time with them.

Lives collide and converge in modern Istanbul and Hamburg in the The Edge of Heaven, the latest film from
Turkish-German director Fatih Akin. This evocative and highly praised movie tells the story of a world in transition through the eyes of Turkish immigrants caught up in the aftermath of a tragic event. Like Crash, The Edge of Heaven weaves six interconnected stories together to explore universal issues.
In The Edge of Heaven, the world is unraveling - or, at least, the old ways are, which is not necessarily a bad thing. The film progresses with some of the chain-of-fate coincidence … hopping from Germany to Turkey and back again, Akin is out to capture the ways that a globalized world can tear up our hearts, and repair them, too. (A-)
