Now Playing: Smart People, June 27 - July 3

Please note: Plimoth Cinema will be closed on Monday, June 30th.

Smart PeopleLawrence Wetherhold (Dennis Quaid) is a curmudgeonly college professor and clueless single dad who has no idea what his children (Ashton Holmes and Ellen Page) are capable of. Into the picture comes Chuck, Lawrence’s stepbrother (Thomas Haden Church) and a new love in the form of Dr. Janet Hartigan (Sarah Jessica Parker), Lawrence’s former student.

A small, sharp, and pleasingly literate comedy…the actors in Smart People are such lively, offbeat company that you’re happy to spend time with them.
Owen Glieberman, Entertainment Weekly

Smart People is an indie film that plays the (jangle, jangle) same chords (strum, strum) as a lot of other heartfelt comedies about too-wise children and codgers taking humanity lessons.
Rex Reed,
New York Observer

Good acting, nice smart script.
Richard Roeper, Ebert and Roeper

Running Time 1 hour, 35 minutes,Rated R

Coming Soon: The Edge of Heaven, July 4-10th

Please note: Plimoth Cinema will be closed on Monday, July 7th.

Lives collide and converge in modern Istanbul and Hamburg in the The Edge of Heaven, the latest film fromEdgeofHeaven Turkish-German director Fatih Akin. This evocative and highly praised movie tells the story of a world in transition through the eyes of Turkish immigrants caught up in the aftermath of a tragic event. Like Crash, The Edge of Heaven weaves six interconnected stories together to explore universal issues.

A beautiful, unexpectedly enrapturing story about a world in transition and both the closeness and unbridgeable divide between generations and cultures.
Carina Chocaro, LA Times

In
The Edge of Heaven, the world is unraveling - or, at least, the old ways are, which is not necessarily a bad thing. The film progresses with some of the chain-of-fate coincidence … hopping from Germany to Turkey and back again, Akin is out to capture the ways that a globalized world can tear up our hearts, and repair them, too. (A-)
Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly

In the course of the extraordinary film The Edge of Heaven children are lost, lost parents are never found, and generational and geographical distances grow wider. A.O. Scott, New York Times
