Assistant Shop Supervisor - Visitors Center

Primary Responsibilities:

Provide positive and welcoming atmosphere in all public spaces within the museum. Assist with supervising museum shop activities, display, scheduling, end of day records, general computer procedures, ordering and housekeeping.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide outstanding customer service. Ring up sales, package purchases.
  • Respond to customer needs and requests. Maximize sales potential.
  • Order inventory from stockroom
  • Knowledge of museum activities and programs
  • Knowledge of product mix and merchandise plans
  • Assist with problem solving, scheduling and time sheets. Assign work tasks to sales associates.
  • Visual merchandising: create and maintain displays of product. Recommend display concepts
  • Price inventory as needed.
  • Request signs; maintain a clean, orderly, organized shop. General housekeeping.
  • Attend and participate in departmental meeting as requested.
  • Assist with store planning and inventories.
  • Work toward accomplishing sales, team and department goals.
  • Opens and closes shop as scheduled. Prepare end-of-day paperwork and bank deposits.

Cheif Financial Officer

Plimoth Plantation, a world-class non-profit institution located in Plymouth MA, is looking for a Chief Financial Officer for a full-time, year-round position. Responsible for all financial, fiscal management and information technology functions of the organization. Provide overall leadership and coordination in the administrative, business planning, accounting, budgeting, information technology and strategic initiative efforts. Direct financial strategy, planning and forecasts to ensure financial stability and support opportunities for expansion and growth.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Oversee and evaluate the financial programs and supporting information systems of the institution to include budgeting, tax filing, grant reporting, real estate and conservation of assets.
  • Coordinate the preparation of accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, financial reports, special analyses and information reports.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate internal control safeguards.
  • Prepare and present projections of cash flow, cost controls and expenses to guide management.
  • Interact with the CEO and other managers to provide consultative support to planning initiatives through financial and management information analysis, reports and recommendations.
  • Ensure that record systems are maintained in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Hire, train, supervise and evaluate professional, technical and clerical staff.
  • Work closely with managers to determine areas which would benefit from automation and coordinate work within the institution to implement appropriate systems.
  • Recommend, approve and coordinate changes and improvements in automated financial and management information systems for the institution.
  • Coordinate and oversee investment policies.
  • Establish and implement short- and long-term departmental goals, objectives, policies and operating procedures.
  • Serve on planning and policy-making committees.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state and federal budgetary reporting requirements.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.

Qualifications for position:

  • Knowledge of advanced principles and practices of accounting, research methods and financial planning, particularly in the non-profit environment
  • Ability to interpret policies, guidelines and procedures; develop recommendations for improvements as necessary
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections
  • Knowledge of computer systems and applications as used within the accounting field
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of systems analysis and design
  • Ability to analyze, evaluate, develop and/or implement systems and procedures for data processing applications
  • Ability to perform complex mathematical and statistical calculations accurately
  • Ability to supervise, evaluate and train assigned personnel

Education and work experience:

Minimum of 10 years of finance/accounting experience, with a minimum of 5+ years in a management capacity and experience with GAAP, GAAS, and non-profit financial accounting. Bachelor’s Degree required; CPA and/or MBA preferred.

Sales Associate/Buyer

Division: Operations
Title: Sales Associate/Buyer
Employment Status: Full time, seasonal
Department: Retail
Reports to: Associate Director, Retail
Supervises: None

Primary responsibilities:

Select and purchase mission-related and other appropriate merchandise for the categories assigned to this position (average 2 days per week). Provide customer service and sales help in museum shops (average 3 days per week).

Major duties and responsibilities:

I. Sales - Sales and friendly customer service, respond to customer inquiries, assist customers with locating the appropriate items, operate cash register (computer), provide change, handle transactions, package items, restock shelves and general housekeeping.  Provide friendly, welcoming customer service in all public spaces in the museum. If closing shop: Generate end-of-day reports, prepare end-of-day paperwork, close out credit cards and prepare bank deposit. Develop familiarity and knowledge of product mix. Use knowledge of products, museum programs and of the Plymouth area to assist our guests. Order product from stockroom as needed.  Check in orders. Open and close the shop as scheduled. This position requires working in any and all of our shops at any and all registers.

II. Buying - Select merchandise, order, reorder, and monitor inventory levels. Review sales data. Maintain in stock conditions on best sellers, especially Plimoth Plantation custom products and those relating directly to the museum’s mission. Meet with vendors and sale reps. Negotiate terms, review catalogs and request samples as needed. Analyze reports to plan purchases, markdowns. Allocate merchandise to appropriate shops. Maintain adequate inventory levels to maximize sales. Achieve annual sales goals. Evaluate vendors based upon price, quality, service support, availability, reliability, and selection. Review listings in catalogs, industry periodicals, directories, and trade journals, research the reputation and history of the suppliers. Attend meetings, trade shows, conferences as time and budget permit. Examine products to check for quality.  Recommend display concepts. Participate in annual physical inventory as needed. Stay within budget guidelines and monitor expenses. Add or eliminate products according to availability and sales history. Provide product info and support as needed to museum shop staff. Work in shops as scheduled.

Keep abreast of online sales in assigned categories and notify content manager of any changes, including items going out of stock temporarily, or discontinued items, and price increases. Write copy for the online shop for assigned categories.

Sales Associate

Primary Responsibilities: 
Sales and friendly customer service, responds to customer inquiries, assist customers with locating the appropriate items, operates cash register (computer), provide change, handle transactions, package items, restock shelves and general housekeeping. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide friendly customer service. Identify customer need and satisfy to maximize sales potential. Assist customer with locating the appropriate products. Process transactions and package items.
  • Merchandise display, working independently and with supervisor to arrange merchandise, restock, general housekeeping and maintain an overall attractive shop appearance.
  • Registers/computer sales reports, provides cash and change for register drawers, orders change, completes sales reports, prepares end-of-day reports and prepares deposits.
  • Develop familiarity and knowledge of product mix, computer and programs. Order product from stockroom as needed.
  • Must be able to work Thanksgiving Day and any holiday if that day is part of your schedule.
  • Opens and closes the shop as scheduled.
  • may be required to fill in security shifts on holidays and weekends.

Stockroom Associate

Division: Operations
Title: Stockroom Associate
Employment Status: Full time, seasonal
Department: Retail Operations
Reports to: Stockroom supervisor

Supervises: None

Job grade: 6

Primary Responsibilities: 
Receive and distribute gift shop orders, label product, maintain an orderly stockroom, process orders.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receives and unpacks shipments, inspects product for damages of flaws, prices and codes items, records accurate counts, stocks items to assigned areas, corrects discrepancies, handles all merchandise with care and contacts buyers office or stores when applicable.
  • Makes necessary proposed transfer orders, prints tags and looks up inventory data for reference as needed. Pulls and fills orders for all shop locations. Schedules and coordinates deliveries to all stores. Delivers orders as needed. Carefully packs items to avoid damages.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area. Breaks down cardboard boxes. Keeps all aisles free of trash.
  • Answers phone and takes messages.
